not like it was on previous stays
BARBARA C.
Aug 11 2017
We have stayed @ Barcelˇ on several occasions, my stay this time was not quite up to par with previous stays. The changes were subtle, probably not noticeable if we had not stayed there in past. Our 2 bdrm family suite was in need of some tlc, sink did not drain in one bathroom, neither hair dryer worked and several lights not working. If you like washcloths best bring your own. We had to call housekeeping 4 times too have room cleaned. The game room has been remodeled, they took out the pool table & replaced it with token operated games (the tokens price is ridiculous (10 tokens for 16.00 usd) games were timed for 30 seconds per game. in my opinion extremely overpriced.

Room occupancy

It was only my husband and I and we were giving a room with 2 double beds. When going on a vacation we would gave much rather preferred a king sized bed. They ended up trying to accommodate and put the two beds together but you could still feel the crack.

Mosquitoes ruined it!

The $500 resort credit provided by Apple Vacation is a hoax, there is no such thing. Barcelo totally denied it. The hotel premium concierge service were not happy to make any changes to the dinner reservations already. The guy at the service desk kept winking at my daughter and my wife. Lots of mosquitoes, we have bites all over our legs & arms which itch like hell and now we have to taking antibiotics. Restaurants are average, nothing special. The main chef at the buffet was actually able to prepare a much better three course dinner for us exclusively. Both the showers in the bathrooms had water drainage issue, we complained twice and we were told it was fixed but it actually got worse. Not returning to this resort.

Friendly people, poor quality hotel

Nice friendly staff,, room was not terrible but not good. Showers were poor and didn't drain well. Food was well below average. Usually gain a couple pounds on vacation, not on this one. Drinks were the same. Oh yea,,and we did upgrade to the premium at booking. So I can only imagine how bad it could have been. For those that read the recommendations, like we did, this is a honest opinion for a family of five (kids13,11,7). I would not recommend Barcelo Puerto Vallarta.

Scary

The last night of my stay I came back to my room and my door was open and there was a receipt from the front office laying inside my room on the ledge inside the door. When I walk down to the office to ask them why that was put in my room and my door left open they told me they'd never would do that. The bellboy showed me where he would've put it in the door either in the crack of the door or under the door . He said he would play back the security cameras and see what was going on he called me when I he asked me if I was going back to my room and I said yes and I was scared. I looked under the bed I looked under the vanity I looked in the closet's was I thought someone could've been hiding in my room. Nothing appeared to be missing but it still made me wonder why my door was left open. They called me at my room and said that they've discovered that the apparatus that the room key slid into needed new batteries and that's why my door opened but they swore up-and-down that they never would open my door to put that receipt from my charges inside my room. I do not believe that this was true . Since I am a widow and I was in my room alone it was quite scary. Also my room was not ready when I got there they told me that it would be ready in a half an hour and I waited until almost 4 o'clock in the afternoon before it was open so I could go in and put my suitcase in my room and kind of get settled and the floor was dirty.

The Barcelo is amazing hotel. My wife and I have stayed there 5 times now and will return. There are only a few things that need to be improved: 1. The drinks lack enough alcohol. 2. Our first night, there was a party in a room close to ours that woke us up at 4:30am and lasted to 5:30am. We called to let the front desk know, but it took 1 hour to finally get the party shout down.

This is a smaller all-inclusive hotel, but in my opinion "top notch." The room was clean and quite large with a separate sitting area. It was quite insulated as you couldn't hear any noise in the hall or outside. The food was excellent in all of the restaurants. The staff was friendly and efficient. The pool areas provided something for everyone with even a small children's pool with a slide for the little ones. The bars were quite numerous so you didn't have to wait for service. All in all we had a great vacation at the Barcelˇ. If you are a beach lover the beach is tiny, but nice to watch boats from the pool area. I would recommend the Barcelˇ for a relaxing vacation.

We are here now spending one week in beautiful paradise. The people are very friendly. We stayed in premium room with gorgeous view. We walked to the zoo and held baby jaguar, tiger, lion, lemur. Dining was very nice Oscar Martinez and Macos took excellent care of us. We got massages on the beach for $20 USD very nice and worth it.

Food Poisoning

Hello, I had stayed here a year ago and I experienced the worst food poisoning of my life. I thought I was dying. the hotel said it must have been the flu, but 3 others were just as violently sick. Also one morning I went into my room to find the glass sliding doors wide open (I know I closed them) my safe open and the tip off the bed gone. Thank god I brought my wallet with me that morning! Not a good expenience at all and I have been to a lot of all -inclusive resorts and never had these things happen.

Nice hotel, beautiful scenery.

When we first got to the hotel we thought if was far from town and even further from the airport but we realized how lucky we were to have that scenery around us. The hotel is big and really good in general, every since you walk in service is extremely friendly and welcoming. Rooms are great, they all have views to the pool and beach, pool is huge and beach is beautiful semiprivate. The hotel is in the middle of 2 hills, it feels like you are in the jungle in the middle of nowhere but only 15 minutes from downtown PV and super close to the zoo, conchas chinas, los arcos and El Ed├ęn park where you can find waterfalls, canopy and more outdoor activities. The food was good, buffet style dinner, different every night, I higher class restaurant and a bar with live music. There is also a show every night with performers. Definitely the best hotel of the Barcel├│ chain.

Not what I expected from Barcelo

Yes....the vegetation and overall atmosphere of Puerto Vallarta was beautiful. However......Barcelo Puerto Vallarta was not the same Barcelo we experienced in Barcelo Maya! POSITIVES: As a family....we love to experience locals and the cultural experience. We went into town and took breath taking photos. The local bars and cobble stone streets filled with shops are such a great experience! We even got to witness locals partying until at least 2am on the beach. It's a small cove....and yes....shared with the lovely locals. Excursions......yes!!!!! Do it! Go to the nearby cove like restaurants. Ask your guides....they know the only place they can take you. Lol! Great food....great service....great drinks. The sand sparkles and looks like someone dropped gold glitter in it!!! No joke! They told us the sand is so fine...it shimmers. It certainly did! NEGATIVES: The hotel.....hmmm....how do I explain this in a positive way....... The nearby restrooms to the pool....ONLY 1 by the main buffet....well....only 1 buffet.....was small....outdated and just plain gross. I dreaded taking my littles to the restroom. I'm talking full trash cans and hair in the sinks!!! Gross! The food however was "good". Certain selections were tasty. My favorite was the fresh taco stand near the entrance to the beach. Best food at the hotel FOR SURE!!! Different meats, fresh tortillas and a fresh bar of salsas to top off your taquitos with lime....onion and all your favorite taco fixings! BEACH: It rained almost every day around 3p or 4p. I quickly realized that, although the water in the cove looked tranquil and had a fab view of fishing boats......it started to rain....and I couldn't help but see the water drizzle down the mountain, from the streets above....into our cove.... sewer, stagnant, street water.....washing in a mix with ocean water.....that yes....we....our children will swim in........I became disgusted. PS....this IS the Pacific side. Although tranquil...don't expect Caribbean clear waters. PRESIDENTIAL SUITE: yes...we stayed at the 3800 sq ft suite on the top floor closest to the local restaurants. FAB suite. If it wasn't for that.....I would've been miserable. We had incredible service as I requested a private dinner one evening. I had a captain and a fab server. All requests were met. Premium wine and liquor. OVERALL: Love Puerto Vallarta. Can't say the same for the resort. POWER OUTAGES: yes!!!!! It happened! Many of times!!!! 4 nights out of 7....yes. Calling concierges was not useful. It happens you guys. Know that! I saw people on our top floor hanging outside their rooms....doors open, with their cell phones on making the best out of it with drink in hand. We later took it upon ourselves to pull out the key and "restart" the power one night.....and it worked! Not so lucky other times. It was dark....mountain side homes.....dark too. Just FYI. Darkness didn't last long....but some visitors coming to see us, were smart enough to take a few flight of stairs to get to our room right before a brief storm hit. Just saying! The light show....however, was exquisite.

another great week @ Barcelo

We were greeted and treated great during our week long stay. Barcel├│ is all inclusive and we don't need to leave the resort with the many activities Barcel├│ offers all day and night. Many of the associates remember us from previous visits and make us feel very welcome. We have many favorite associates. Veronica Silva who help us purchase the Barcel├│ Club and book our vacations Yolanda Martinez the concierge who checked on us to see if there was anything we needed,,Juan Alberto Santana the lifeguard who watches over us at the pool Oscar Martinez , felix N & Geovani Castro in the snack bar buffet and Edgar at the pool bar ,Antonio Rodrigues in our favorite cantina. We can't wait to come back and see the new remodel but we will miss the beautiful red tile hallways.
